GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Methodist men's soccer team extended its winning streak to five games after recording its fifth-straight shutout after a 1-0 victory at Greensboro on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Monarchs improve to 5-3-1 on the season with a 3-0 conference mark. Meanwhile, the Pride drops to 6-4 overall with a 3-1 league record.
The first half ended scoreless with the two sides combining for seven shots, including three on target.
MU finally broke the scoreless tie at the 56:16 mark when
Fredrik Aalberg took advantage of a misplayed ball to tally his sixth goal of the year. Neither side was able to score for the remainder of the game as the Monarchs held on for the 1-0 victory.
Greensboro held a 9-5 advantage in shots and also had an edge in corner kicks, 7-2.
Goalkeeper
Jonathan Moore (5-1-1) registered six saves in 90 minutes and received the win. The reigning USA South Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, Moore extended his shutout streak to nearly 470 minutes. Jaime Payamps (6-4) took the loss after making two saves on Saturday.
The Monarchs return to action tomorrow, Oct. 2, as they travel to face Ferrum at 4 pm.
