ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Methodist men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to N.C. Wesleyan in USA South action on Wednesday evening.
With the loss, the Monarchs drop to 5-6-1 on the season behind a 3-3 conference mark. Meanwhile, the Battling Bishops improve to 11-4 overall and remain unblemished in league play with an 8-0 record.
In the first half, N.C. Wesleyan opened the scoring at the 10:16 mark when Jordan Davis took a cross from Olafur Einarsson and was able to beat the goalkeeper from around 20 yards out. The Battling Bishops added to their lead in the 14th minute when A.J. Wadda placed a through ball between the MU defense and Einarsson tallied his sixth goal of the season, 2-0. N.C. Wesleyan struck again at the 32:22 mark after Caetano Viegas scored with an assist from Benjamin Osei to make the halftime score 3-0.
Kobi Boompong collected the fourth goal of the evening after taking a ball that defended off a Monarch defender, 4-0. The Monarchs failed to register a shot on goal in the second half after tallying only one in the first period.
Goalkeeper
Jonathan Moore (5-4-1) took the loss after making one save in 58 minutes before
Scott Brecke entered the game. He did not face a shot in 32 minutes on the field. Alex Magner (11-4) received the victory after making one save in all 90 minutes.
The Battling Bishops outshot the Monarchs, 13-6, while MU held a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Monarchs return to action Saturday, Oct. 22, against Piedmont in the Monarch Soccerplex beginning at 3 pm.
