FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Methodist closed out the home portion of its 2016 season with a tough 3-1 loss to William Peace on Wednesday evening at the Riddle Center.
 
The Monarchs (7-22, 3-11 USA South) earned a win in the first set, 25-21, and held a late lead in the second before WPU (21-7, 11-4 USA South) came back to even the match at 1-1 with a 28-26 win. The Pacers then claimed the match with a 25-14 win in the third set and a 25-18 win in the second set.
 
Before the match, MU honored the lone senior on its roster, Brittany Lewis.
 
Cassidy Hayes and Brittany Ter Meer led MU with 11 kills apiece, and Lewis added five. Maggie Harris had 31 assists and 16 digs for MU. Annabelle Ronelli led the defense with 20 digs, Alyssa Coffey added 18, and Sydney Schmeltzer chipped in 11. Hayes and Ter Meer each had a pair of blocks.
 
For William Peace, Laura Bland led four players with at least 10 kills recording 16. Lindsay Alford and Mya Parks each had 11, and Lenorria Harris added 10. Liana Solomon led the way with 47 assists and chipped in three service aces and 17 digs. Parks had 25 digs and Carson Williams had 23. Tempestt Frazier had five total blocks to go with eight kills.
 
The Monarchs will close out the 2016 regular season on Saturday at Mary Baldwin beginning at 12:00 pm.
