NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Methodist women's tennis team opened its 2016 season on Saturday afternoon at the Christopher Newport Quad match. In its first game, the Monarchs fell, 7-2, to the host Captains.
In doubles play, the Methodist pair of Davi Barbour and Riley Zopp picked up an 8-4 win in the third slot over Kate Huck and Claire Dockrill. At the number one spot, Isabella Graf and Same Munze fell, 8-3, to McKinney Harwood and Katie Carlson and at number two doubles, Jenna Landis and Ashton Walker came up short, 8-3, against Emily Morgan and Alexandra Drye.
Landis picked up the lone win for the Monarchs in the No. 3 singles spot, edging Kate Huck, 6-4, 6-7, 16-5.
The Monarchs will compete again on Sunday at 10:00 am against Roanoke.
