NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Methodist women's tennis team finished play in the CNU quad match late Saturday evening, falling 6-3 to Salisbury University before defeating Roanoke College, 8-1 on Sunday morning.
In the No. 2 spot, Jenna Landis and Ashton Walker picked up the lone win in doubles play for the Monarchs, topping Claudia Lohn and Meg Soderland, 8-6.
In singles play, Riley Zopp ended up on top, 7-6, 6-4, at No. 5 over Taylor Cooper, and at No. 6 Han Le bested Megan Knapp, 7-5, 6-0.In the loss to Roanoke, MU grabbed all three wins in doubles play. At the No. 1 spot, Graf and Munze defeated Emily Henderson and Briell Smith, 8-3, and at No. 2 Landis and Walker topped Rhealyn Dinkins and Catherine Lee, 8-2. At No. 3, Davi Barbour and Zopp earned an 8-4 victory over Kristen McDowell and Tracy Kile.
At No. 1 singles, Graf edged Henderson, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, and at No. 3 Landis beat Smith, 6-1, 6-4. In the No. 4 spot, Walker defeated Lee in comeback fashion, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, and at No. 5 Barbour grabbed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kaitlyn Diskerud. In the No. 6 singles spot, Zopp bested Lydia Dey, 6-3, 6-3.
Methodist will continue action at home on Feb. 20 against Covenant at 12:00 pm.
