FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's tennis team earned a 7-2 win over USA South foe Covenant College in its home opener on Saturday afternoon at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Monarchs (2-2, 1-0 USAS) grabbed all three wins, the first coming at No.3 where
Davi Barbour and
Riley Zopp teamed up to defeat Danielle Morin and Lindsay Geving, 8-2.
Isabella Graf and
Sam Munze topped Aly Hall and Annie DeLuca, 8-4, at No. 1 before
Jenna Landis and
Ashton Walker concluded doubles play with an 8-5 win over Claire Luges and Gracie Smith.
Walker picked up the first win in singles play for the Green and Gold at the No. 4 spot, blanking Smith, 6-0, 6-0. After Graf dropped her singles match at No. 1 to Hall, 6-0, 6-2, Barbour clinched the match for Methodist, earning a 6-2, 6-0 win over Morin at the No. 5 spot. At No. 3, Landis emerged victorious, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6, over DeLuca and Zopp grabbed the last win for Methodist at No. 6, topping Geving 6-4, 6-4.
The Monarchs are back in action on Feb. 28 as they host Oglethorpe at 12:00 pm.
