FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's tennis team clinched the USA South regular-season crown on Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 rout of Mary Baldwin at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.
The Monarchs remain undefeated in conference (12-0) and hold an overall record of 17-2. With the loss, Mary Baldwin falls to 3-14 overall and 3-9 in USA South play.
Methodist picked up three quick 8-0 wins in doubles play to gain a 3-0 advantage heading into singles.
The first singles win came from the No. 2 line where
Sam Munze blanked Caroline Dilorenzo before
Isabella Graf clinched the match for Methodist with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Alayah Austin at No. 1.
Ashton Walker cruised past Miangel Hite, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 and at the No. 3 line,
Jenna Landis topped Sarena Clifton, 6-0, 6-1. The last singles matches of the day saw
Davi Barbour best Jochebed Koomson, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and
Riley Zopp defeat Jeni-Lee MacLaughlin, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
