ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Methodist women's tennis team extended its winning streak to 15 matches on Wednesday afternoon, downing USA South rival N.C. Wesleyan, 7-2.
With the win, the Monarchs remain undefeated in conference play (10-0) and hold a 15-2 overall record. The Battlin' Bishops dropped to 11-5 overall and 10-2 in conference with the loss.
The Monarchs went ahead, 3-0, in doubles play after picking up three straight wins, including an 8-6 edge by
Isabella Graf and
Sam Munze over Valelria Berber and Stephany Barbera at No. 1.
Ashton Walker picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ana Diaz at No. 4 and after Barbera got revenge on Munze with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2,
Jenna Landis clinched the match for Methodist at the No. 3 line with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Florencia Sorrentino.
Riley Zopp topped Katie Beeman, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 and at No. 5,
Davi Barbour battled from behind for a 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Andrea Tobar.
Methodist will conclude regular season play on Saturday against Ferrum College beginning at 1:00 pm.
