BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Methodist men's soccer team posted its first win of the season after earning a 3-0 victory at Southern Virginia on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Monarchs improve to 1-3-1 on the year, while the Knights fall to 2-4 overall.
The scoring began at the 8:45 mark when
Fredrik Aalberg found a pass from
Tyler Ursuy to put the Monarchs on the board, 1-0. Just before the end of the half, freshman
Austin Lang scored his first goal of the year in the 45th minute to make the halftime score 2-0.
MU tallied its final score at the 60:16 mark when
Trevor Hendricks scored with an assist from
Seth Harrison to get the result, 3-0.
The Monarchs held an 11-6 edge in shots and also found a 3-2 edge in corners.
Junior
Jonathan Moore (1-1-1) collected two saves in 70 minutes before
Scott Brecke finished the game in net without facing a shot. Keenan Carroll (1-4) received the loss after allowing two goals, while Spencer Young recorded two saves in 45 minutes.
MU finishes its weekend road trip tomorrow, Sept. 18, when it travels to Arlington, Va. to take on Marymount at 1 pm.
