FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist men's soccer team posted its fourth-straight shutout in a 2-0 victory against Covenant in USA South action on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Monarchs extend their winning streak to four games and move to 4-3-1 on the season behind a 2-0 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Scots drop to 1-6-1 overall with a 1-3 record in conference games.
MU recorded the first goal off the foot of
Fredrik Aalberg who took a pass from
Seth Harrison in the 19th minute. It was Aalberg's team-leading fifth goal of the year, and Harrison's conference-best sixth assist of the season. The half ended with the one score, but saw two yellow cards and a combined 16 fouls.
In the second half, the Monarchs added to their lead at the 66:24 mark after Harrison went around two defenders in the box and was able to beat the goalkeeper low, 2-0. MU had a few more chances to increase the deficit as Covenant defenders kicked away multiple shots in the game.
Goalkeeper
Jonathan Moore (4-2-1) posted two saves in 90 minutes on his way to receiving the victory. For Covenant, Johnathan Crossman (1-5-0) recorded the loss despite making five saves.
The Monarchs held a 22-11 advantage in shots and also a 6-4 edge in corners. The game saw a total of four cautions and 32 fouls.
Methodist continues conference play next Saturday, Oct. 1, as it travels to face Greensboro at 2 pm.
