Box Score SALISBURY, Md. -- The Methodist women's soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision to Stevenson on Friday evening in its season-opening match played at Salisbury University.

The Monarchs (0-1) broke through first as
Kortney Maggard's through ball in the offensive third found the foot of
Jasmine Newman, who beat the Mustangs' (1-0) keeper one-on-one for a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the match.

Stevenson answered in the 37th minute as Juliana Portera netted an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the break. In the second half, Alexis Siejack got on the end of a pass from Gabriela Young and beat MU's Meghan O'Meara to a 2-1 lead at the 55:50 mark. Less than three minutes later, Siejack scored from long range to push Stevenson's lead to 3-1.

Miranda Cowardin cut MU's deficit to one at 3-2 with an unassisted goal at the 65:54 mark, but the Mustangs added a Lauren Spivey marker in the 73rd minute to seal the contest and emerge with the 4-2 win.

For the game, Stevenson outshot MU, 21-15, including 14-5 in the second half. O'Meara and
Catie Gaughan combined to make 12 saves in goal for the Monarchs. Tiffany McKee came up with three saves for the Mustangs.

Methodist was scheduled to wrap up play in the Salisbury Tournament on Saturday, but the remnants of Hurricane Hermine moving up the East Coast have cancelled the contest.
