FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to Christopher Newport at the Monarch Soccerplex on Tuesday evening.
With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 0-2 overall, while, the Captains improve to 2-0 on the year.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half despite a total of 13 shots. CNU opened the scoring at the 65:31 mark when Carson Pokorny tallied her third goal of the season after receiving a pass from Taylor Hudgins. The Captains added to their lead in the 76th minute when Victoria Perry notched an unassisted goal, her second of the year. Moments later, the Captains nearly added another goal on a bouncing ball in the box, but
Miranda Cowardin was able to clear the ball of the line and end the threat. In the 78th minute, CNU registered another score when Kimmie Kerstiens took a pass from Pokorny inside the box to increase the lead to 3-0.
For the game, CNU outshot MU, 24-3, including a 13-1 margin in the second half.
Meaghan O'Meara recorded eight saves for the Monarchs, while Carly Maglio registered two saves for the Captains.
MU returns to action on Sept. 14 it travels to take on Bridgewater at 4 pm.
