DANVILLE, Va. -- The Methodist men's soccer team claimed a 3-2 victory against Averett in USA South action on Saturday night.

With the win, the Monarchs improve to 10-4-1 on the year with a 6-2-0 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Cougars drop to 4-8-2 overall behind a 3-5-1 record in conference action.

Averett got on the board first late in the first half when Asher Francis connected on a header from Sean Dunbar who sent in a free kick at the 41:37 mark, 1-0, which held until halftime.

In the second half, the Monarchs tied the contest at the 49:00 mark as
Zvi Ferrari netted his sixth goal of the year after finishing on a through ball from
Gerry Madden, 1-1. The Green and Gold assumed the lead in the match when
Kristoffer Skarstein buried a corner kick from
Isaac Sanchez in the 61st minute, 2-1. The Cougars tied the game at the 73:16 mark when Mitchell Smith scored on a header with assists from Francis and Austin Dunbar, 2-2.
Conor Morris recorded his team-high eighth goal of the year after taking a pass from Ferrari as the Monarchs took a 3-2 lead in the 78th minute, which proved to be the game-winning goal.

Jonathan Moore made three saves in all 90 minutes, while Olavesen pushed aside two shots in the loss.

MU held a slight 10-9 advantage in shots, while earning an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. In total, 21 fouls were called with each side given three yellow cards.

Methodist returns to action on Oct. 21, against Huntingdon at the Monarch Soccerplex with first touch scheduled for 4 pm.
