NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Methodist women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 contest at No. 24 Christopher Newport on Sunday afternoon.
With the result, the Monarchs are now 7-6 on the season, while the Captains have now won five-straight matches and move to 7-3 overall.
CNU opened the match with a sweep of the doubles action. The duo of
Jenna Landis and
Sam Munze fell, 8-3, to the pairing of McKinney Harwood and Alexandra Drye at the first slot.
Ashton Walker and
Davi Barbour also were defeated, 8-3, at the second position against Johanna Ranta-aho and Kate Huck, while
Riley Zopp and
Audrey Greeson dropped an 8-3 contest to Emily Morgan and Katie Carlson at third doubles.
The Captains also swept the singles play to complete the 9-0 match victory. Zopp fought to a 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 loss against Claire Dockrill at the fifth slot in the only singles match to go to a third set. Landis was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Ranta-aho, who is the No. 36-ranked singles player in Division III.
Methodist returns to action on Tuesday, March 21, against Greensboro beginning at 3:30 pm.
