LaGRANGE, Ga. -- The Methodist women's tennis team claimed an 8-1 victory over Covenant to repeat as USA South Tournament champions on Saturday afternoon.

The Monarchs have now won seven league tournament titles in the last eight years and take their ninth overall tournament crown. They also move to 17-6 on the year. Meanwhile, the Scots fall in the conference finals for a consecutive year and finish the season 14-8.

MU earned four of the six spots on the all-tournament team as
Jenna Landis,
Sam Munze,
Davi Barbour and
Ashton Walker each received the honor. Walker was also named the tournament MVP.

In doubles play, the tandem of Walker and Barbour moved past the team of Claire Luger and Gracie Smith, 8-2, before the No. 13 team in the region Munze and Landis defeated the pairing of Aly Hall and Esther Eddy, 8-5. Covenant took its only win of the day at the third doubles position with a 9-8 (7-4) win over
Riley Zopp and
Audrey Greeson.

The Monarchs swept singles play started by
Allison Himes defeating Jennis Spielman, 6-2, 6-0, at the sixth position. Munze captured a 6-4, 6-2 win against Luger at the third slot, while Barbour tallied a 6-2, 6-4 count against Eddy at fourth singles to clinch the team victory. Landis finished off Annie DeLuca 6-2, 6-2, before Walker dropped Hall, 6-2, 6-4, and Zopp ended the day with a 6-4, 6-3 decision against Smith at the fifth spot.

Methodist receives an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships and will make its 13th national appearance in program history. The field will be announced on May 8 with the preliminary rounds beginning on May 12.
