DANVILLE, Va. -- The Methodist women's tennis team closed the regular season and extended its winning streak to seven matches with an 8-1 victory at Averett on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Monarchs end the regular season with a 14-6 record behind a 7-0 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the Cougars drop to 7-7 on the year with a 4-2 record in league games.

In doubles action, the tandem of
Jenna Landis and
Sam Munze outlasted the team of Heidi Sarkkinen and Hannah Mattson, 9-7, at first singles. The pairing of
Ashton Walker and
Davi Barbour claimed their sixth-straight win with an 8-0 count over Ashley Thornton and Jordyn Minton at the second slot.
Riley Zopp and
Audrey Greeson completed the sweep in doubles with an 8-0 victory against Miriam Lindberg and Frida Lundquist at the third position.

During singles play, Walker dropped her first conference match after losing a 7-5, 7-5 decision to Sarkkinen at the first spot. Landis earned a 6-1, 6-0 win against Mattson at second singles, while Munze claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Minton at the third slot. Barbour, Zopp and
Allison Himes each recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins to complete an 8-1 match victory.

Methodist earns the top seed out of the East in the USA South Tournament, which begins on April 13 in LaGrange, Georgia.
