FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist men's soccer team claimed a 2-1 win against Guilford at the Monarch Soccerplex on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Monarchs improve to 2-2-1 on the season, while the Quakers fall to 0-6-0 overall.

MU got on the board first after
Zvi Ferrari played a rebound in the box and scored his first collegiate goal at the 23:40 mark, 1-0. The Monarchs controlled the pace of the game in the first half until GC tied the contest on a goal by Ricky Aguilar in the final seconds of the 45th minute to enter halftime tied 1-1.

In the second half,
Gerry Madden notched his first goal of the season at the 55:23 mark after taking possession in the box and beating the keeper to the right. The Monarch defense held the Quakers without a shot on target in the second half to hold on for a 2-1 victory.

Josh Helms picked up his first win of the season after playing the entire second half.
Jonathan Moore started and played the first period for the Monarchs allowing one goal. Zach Van Kampen conceded two goals and made eight saves in all 90 minutes of play.

The Monarchs outshot the Quakers 25-5, while also holding a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Methodist returns to action on Friday, Sept. 15, as it opens USA South play at Piedmont beginning at 4 pm.
