FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's tennis team began play in the Methodist Invitational at the Gene Clayton Courts on Friday afternoon.

On Friday, all three of the doubles flights were played through. Beginning on Saturday, there will be nine singles draws.

In the first doubles flight,
Jenna Landis and
Davi Barbour earned an 8-6 win over Heidi Sarkkinen and Hannah Mattson of Averett in a third place match after dropping a semifinal match against Paloma Sanchez and Arianna Orozco of Bluefield.

Laura Brown and
Audrey Greeson picked up a pair of wins on Friday night in the No. 2 doubles flight. The duo defeated the team of Allison Wike and Leah Upright, 8-0, before dropping Olivia Dannon and Kaitlyn Woodruff of Hollins, 8-1 to claim the flight's consolation title. Also in the flight, the team of
Taylor Jackson and
Han Le dropped the tandem of Dannon/Woodruff, 8-0, before moving past the duo of Anna Branson and Sydney Honeycutt of Pfeiffer, 8-0.

In the final doubles flight, the pairing of
Allison Himes and
Hannah Abrahamson won the flight after earning a pair of wins. The tandem picked up wins against Valerie Sargeant and Kateri Johnson of Hollins, 8-1, before winning the draw with an 8-2 decision against Sierra Douherty and Gillian Emerson of Meredith, 8-2. Also in the flight,
Abby Siracusa teamed with Ashley Thornton of Averett to claim an 8-4 win over Elizabeth Rochow and Kandyce Mayces of Hollins to win the consolation draw.
Aly Andrews and
Casey Carroll also tallied an 8-3 win over Madison Furr and Bree Williams of Pfeiffer.
