FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to pull out a 3-2 win over Guilford on Wednesday evening in its home opener of 2017.
 
The Monarchs (3-2) took the first set by a score of 25-20 before dropping a 25-22 decision in the second set to even the match at 1-1. In the third set, the Quakers (3-2) opened up a 14-4 lead before MU came all the way back to take a 24-23 lead before ultimately falling 26-24. The momentum gained in closing out the third set carried through the rest of the match as the Monarchs claimed wins ins sets four and five 25-18 and 15-5, respectively, to pick up the win.
 
Ashley Beardsley was one of three Monarchs with 12 or more kills as she totaled a team-high 14. Megan Andrews added 13 kills to go with 14 digs, and Cassidy Hayes added 12 kills and three blocks. Maggie Harris led the way with 41 assists and added 19 digs, while Annabelle Ronelli posted a match-high 23 digs. Andrews and Hayes also had four and three service aces, respectively.
 
Jessica Sheek led the Quakers with 14 kills and hit .407, while Tina Euker had 43 assists and 15 digs. Christian Ritter led GC with 18 digs and added 13 kills, while Morgan Tompkins chipped in 12 kills and 17 digs.
 
Methodist is back in action this weekend at the Maroon Classic hosted by Roanoke. MU's first match is against Randolph on Friday beginning at 2 pm.
