FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist men's soccer team opened its 2017 home schedule under the lights with a 1-0 victory against Marymount at the Monarch Soccerplex on Friday night..
With the win, the Monarchs move to 1-1-1 on the season, while the Saints drop to 0-3-0 overall.

Methodist scored after
Trevor Hendricks worked a cross into the box and
Conor Morris found the back of the net for his first goal of the season 17 seconds into the contest, 1-0. Near the end of the half, the Monarchs almost notched another goal when
Nick Bryant struck the crossbar with a shot.

After the break, neither team found the back of the net. The Monarchs defense held the Saints to one shot in the period.

Jonathan Moore recorded his first shutout of the season after not facing a shot in all 90 minutes. Meanwhile, John Valcicak stopped two of the three shots he saw.

The Monarchs outshot Marymount 13-4 while holding a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Methodist returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 10, against Sewanee at the Monarch Soccerplex beginning at 12 pm.
