HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a sluggish first quarter for both teams as neither team were able to strike in the opening frame.
- Josh Carter continued displaying his explosiveness as a rusher and a receiver when he scored a 49-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. He had three rushes for 70 yards and a touchdown and seven catches for 49 yards.
- The second quarter was as lively as you would ever see in football. The second quarter featured two punts, an interception, and seven touchdowns.
- A 56-yard Brevard pass from Dalton Cole to Tyler Gregory set up a one-yard Gregory touchdown which was the first points of the game.
- On the very first play from scrimmage after a blocked punt gave the Tornados a 20-7 lead, Howard ran 70 yards for a touchdown.
- This was a classic punch, counterpunch game as each team had a response for the other's big play. After Methodist took a 21-20 lead thanks to a 5-yard touchdown pass to Tracy Fusilier from Steve Keoni, the Tornadoes took the ensuing kickoff 84 yards to set up a one-yard touchdown and retake the lead.
- Cole connected with Martigus Henley on consecutive drives to open the third quarter for touchdowns.
- There were two very costly Monarch fumbles that were recovered by Brevard. One fumble led directly to a Tornados touchdown and the other fumble occurred with Methodist in the red zone.
- With less than five minutes in the fourth quarter, the Monarchs had the ball thanks to an E.J. White 44-yard interception reception. At Brevard's 12-yard line, Keoni's pass fell incomplete on 4th and five to effectively end the game.
- Keoni went 16-of-26 passing with 110 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
- In addition to Howard's and Carter's efforts in the run game, Keoni had 51 yards rushing on seven carries and Nick Baker had 43 yards on seven carries, and a touchdown.
- Monarchs' Nate Jones set a season-high in tackles with 15 total tackles, 12 of them being solo stops. Julian Cupo and Kodi Carrington each had eight total tackles and a tackle for loss.
TORNADOS TWISTS
- Brevard saw great contributions from Andreas Wyatt and Trevon Charles. Wyatt made contributions on both defense and special teams as he recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown and caught an interception off Keoni deep in the red zone. He also had three total tackles.
- Charles was a special teams phenom as he got credited for the punt block and returned a kickoff 84 yards. Those two plays led to 14 points in favor of the Tornados. Charles also added four solo stops to those numbers.
- Cole went 21-of-33 for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.
- Henley made his moments count with two catches for two touchdowns. He had 63 receiving yards. Gregory led all receivers with a game-high 95 yards.
