Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2018 schedule with an 8-1 win against Lynchburg on Saturday.
 
With the win, the Monarchs are 1-0 on the young season, while the Hornets falls to 0-1.
 
In doubles action, the team of Davi Barbour and Riley Zopp defeated Christina Harris and Halle Lavieri, 8-4, at the first position, while the tandem of Jenna Landis and Audrey Greeson dropped Sarah Wyly and Reagan Coon, 8-3, at the second slot. The pairing of Ashton Walker and Laura Brown completed the sweep in doubles with an 8-1 victory against Caroline Guill and Lilli Altenburg.
 
Barbour defeated Wyly, 6-1, 6-1, at the second position, while Walker moved past Lavieri, 6-1, 6-0, at the third slot. Brown dropped Guill, 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles and Zopp earned a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Altenburg at the fifth position. Finishing the 8-1 victory was Han Le would defeated Coon 6-0, 6-1 at the sixth slot.
 
Methodist's match on Feb. 11, at Barton has been postponed due to weather. MU will return to the courts in Fredericksburg, Va., against Mary Washington and Franklin & Marshall.
