Box Score 2 HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The Methodist women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Tuesday to continue its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head.

The Monarchs opened the day with a 9-0 win against Wilkes before battling for a 5-4 win against Lawrence Tech.

In the morning match with Wilkes, MU swept doubles play beginning with the tandem of
Ashton Walker and
Laura Brown making quick work of Erin Volutza and Brittany Stanton, 8-0, at third position. The pairing of
Davi Barbour and
Taylor Jackson defeated Varela-Seri and Laura Zielinski, 8-6, while the team of
Jenna Landis and
Han Le defeated Jordan Vasarkovy and Dana Saliyev, 9-7, at the top doubles spot.

In singles, Jackson started off with a 6-2, 6-3 win at sixth position, while Landis earned a 6-2, 6-3 win as well at the top spot against Vasarkovy. Barbour moved by Varela-Seri 6-3, 6-0 to clinch the team win before Walker moved past Saliyev 6-1, 6-3 at the third slot.
Riley Zopp picked up a win over Zielinksi by a 6-3, 6-3 count and Brown completed the sweep with a 7-6, 6-2 victory at fourth singles.

Against Lawrence Tech, Walker and Brown started off with an 8-2 win against Sabrina Mateos and Anusha Varudandi at the first slot before Barbour and
Audrey Greeson escaped with an 8-6 win against Carolyn McCullen and Samantha Kohn at second position. Jackson and
Allison Himes completed the sweep of doubles play with an 8-5 win against Maria Alvarez and Caroline Harpainter.

In singles, Himes fought to a 3-6, 7-5, 10-8 win at the second slot. Lawrence Tech picked up four wins in singles play, but Methodist tallied the match victory with a win by default at the sixth position.

Methodist returns to action in Hilton Head on Thursday, March 8, at 8:15 am against William Woods and finishes the day against Nebraska Wesleyan at 3:30 pm.
