SWARTHMORE, Pa. A pair of nearly last-minute goals rallied Methodist's men's soccer team past Rosemont (Pa.) College Friday evening in a 2-1 neutral-site, non-conference victory at Swarthmore College's Clothier Field.
JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist 2 – Rosemont 1
Location: Clothier Field, Swarthmore, Pa.
Records: Methodist 1-0 overall, Rosemont 0-2 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tyler Hilbert chased down a lead pass from Garrett Shan to notch the equalizing goal in the 85th minute. Yazeed Alshamekh slotted a pass to Shan who flicked it ahead to Hilbert for the rare double-assist.
- Nearly exactly two minutes later a cross from the right side of the Rosemont goal careened through pairs of legs until finding Conor Morris who deftly collected the loose ball then powered it up into the top shelf of the Raven's goal from three yards out for what would become the game-winning marker.
- In the 25th minute Rosemont launched its first shot on goal…and scored, to provide the Ravens with a one-goal advantage. Methodist had gotten off the first shot of the game, and earned the game's first set piece before Rosemont scored.
- Playing with that one-goal deficit in the second half, the Monarchs commanded play but weren't able to convert their chances. They outshot Rosemont 8-2 before adding the two goals on two shots in the 85th and 87th.
- Lawson Lamm had the live leg for much of the game, accruing four of Methodist's 14 shots in the game. His four chances were double that of any teammate and more than Rosemont totaled for the entirety of the contest.
- Scott Brecke earned the win in goal for Methodist, coming up with a save in the second half that kept the deficit at just the one goal.
