SWARTHMORE, Pa. The late-game heroics that propelled Methodist to a season-opening win a day earlier were missing Sunday afternoon at Swarthmore College as the host Garnet hung on for a 1-0 non-conference win over the Monarchs at Clothier Field.
A pair of goals in the final five minutes had lifted Methodist from a deficit Saturday night, but on Sunday there would be no last-minute drama.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Nick Bryant in the 56th picked up the only other Methodist shot on frame but again, Steinglass was in position to make a save that preserved Swarthmore's precarious one-goal edge.
- Late in the 70th it was Scott Brecke's turn to prevent a goal as he leaped high to tip a shot just over the crossbar, keeping Methodist's hopes alive.
- Swarthmore had a 15-6 advantage in shots, but only three of its shots were on goal.
- Both Brecke and Steinglass finished the contest with two saves each.
