JUST THE FACTS
Final score: LaGrange def. Methodist, 2-1 OT
Records: Methodist 4-3 overall, 1-1 USA South; LaGrange 5-3 overall, 1-2 USA South
Location: Panther Field, LaGrange, Ga.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Though the Panthers got off the initial five shots in the game, it took just one shot from Methodist to light up the scoreboard. Temple Siar headed in a corner kick from Yazeed Alshamekh in the 33rd minute to put the Monarchs in front with Siar's first tally of the season.
- Three minutes later Hugo Kamppainen tried to double the advantage with a shot on frame but LaGrange goalkeeper Cory Aycock thwarted the scoring opportunity to keep his Panthers close.
- Methodist would generate just one more shot over the remaining minutes of the first half, while LaGrange was pressuring in its attacking third, accumulating seven shots in all, but only one of which was on frame requiring a Scott Brecke save.
- Neither attacking third was very congested in the opening minutes of the second half, but LaGrange was able to find its equalizing score in the 52nd minute, getting a tying goalf from Harris Peek.
- Both teams totaled up six shots apiece in the second stanza of the contest, with Brecke coming up with four saves and Aycock stopping three to keep the score deadlocked at 1-1 and force the extra period.
- Like in the first half when all it took was one shot to move the scoreboard, LaGrange took one shot in the overtime period and made it count. Justin Threatt recorded the winning goal for the Panthers off an assist by Jude McEvoy at the 95:11 mark.
- Both Brecke and Aycock finished the contest with five saves apiece.
