ARLINGTON, Va. Trent Powell scored two goals -- including the game-winner -- to vault Methodist men's soccer past host Marymount University, 3-1, in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Monarchs set the tone from the very beginning with a

Records: Methodist 3-6-1, Marymount 5-7

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Powell gave Methodist a 2-0 lead by recovering a saved Christopher Shoffler shot near the back post and putting his strike past the Saints' goalie.
- Powell's second goal (and the Monarchs' third) was a thing of beauty. He received a headed pass from Ulises Sanchez in the box, flipped the ball over a defender's head and finished with a volley that was in the net before the goalie even had a chance to react.
- In the 12th minute, Cole Hupp kept the Saints off the board, earning the save on a Ridwann Robinson penalty kick.
- Leonardo Luna scored for Marymount in the 49th minute, splitting two Monarch defenders and scoring from the back post.
STAT FACTS
- The Monarchs were outshot 15-8 by the Saints but in this game, shots on target mattered much more. In this case, each team put four shots on goal.
- 29 combined fouls, four yellow cards, plus a red signified the level of intensity this game displayed.
- Powell went two-for-two-for-two. Two shots, both on target, both goals.
- This Monarch win stops a losing skid of four consecutive games.
