WILMINGTON, N.C. DJ Twitty captured the men's shot put title Saturday at the UNC-Wilmington Invitational, posting a personal record (PR) of 13.08 meters (42 feet-11 inches). Teammate
Jalen Anderson fell just a few inches short of his own PR, earning third place in the event with a best toss of 11.32m (37-1.75).
The field-event duo were part of Methodist's highlights at the Invitational that included a short list of events Friday evening before a full list on Saturday.
MONARCH HIGHLIGHTS
- Twitty's PR came on his fifth of six attempts in the circle.
- Anderson also placed third in Friday night's hammer throw, recording a best of 30.57m (100-3).
- In the women's shot, Deasha Frisby set a new PR with her sixth-place throw of 10.26m (33-8), unleashing her new recorded best on the second of her six attempts.
- Jimlyn Laurent ripped down the straightaway Friday night in the prelims of the women's 100-meter dash, posting a time of 12.53 seconds to qualify for Saturday's event final with the fifth-fastest prelim time. In that Saturday final she improved two spots to third place with a final time of 12.52 and a new PR.
- In the men's 1,500-meter run, Stephen Dukes finished 10th overall with a clocking of 4:19.30, which fell 0.26 seconds away from his collegiate best time in the event.
- The men's 3,000m steeplechase produced PRs for a pair of Monarch runners. Connor Ayers finished fourth in a time of 10 minutes, 32.65 seconds, while Nathan Zauner was fifth in a time of 10:52.88.
