VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. It was a tough outing for Methodist men's soccer as the Monarchs had a non-conference road date against host Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins won 5-0 over Methodist Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 7th minute, Scott Signorelli scored the opening goal and returned with another goal in the 12th minute.
- Following Signorelli's first goal, Matteo Amendola provided Methodist with its best chance to even the score with a fast counterattack but Griffin Potter earned the save.
- The Monarchs were awarded three corner kicks, all in the second half. Rylan Hoerning was able to convert one of those opportunities into a shot but his header went wide.
- The Marlins scored in the 34th minute to take a 3-0 lead into halftime and then added two more scores in the second half.
NUMBERS
- There were 23 combined fouls and four yellow cards assessed in this physical match.
- Methodist registered eight shots and two on target.
- Hugo Kemppainen and Hoerning each had a team-high two shots taken. Kemppainen and Amendola registered the team's only shots on frame.
