HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening set of Methodist's victory over NCW changed leads only twice, but was tied on nine occasions, including at 23-23.
- Methodist picked up the set's penultimate point on a kill from Kaeli Ryan, then closed out the set on a Battling Bishops attacking error.
- After NCW evened the match with a strong set-two win, Methodist pushed back in front by never trailing in an equally strong, 11-point Game 3 win.
- The Bishops played as any team would with its backs to the wall in the fourth set, as the two teams traded the lead five times on top of eight tie scores.
- Tied at 15-all, a three-point surge from Methodist -- on an NCW service error, a Wrench kill and an Andrews kill -- finally provided a cushion that wouldn't be relinquished.
- The Monarchs finished off the set, and match, victory with a Wrench kill, one from Erica East, and a Bishops attacking error at match point.
- Methodist's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Averett wasn't a walkover for the visiting Cougars.
- In the opening two sets combined, an Averett and then Methodist victory, respectively, they combined for seven lead changes and 18 tie scores.
NUMBERS
- On the day, Wrench totaled 18 kills, added four service aces and came up with 22 digs.
- Andrews led the team on the attack in the Averett match, with 10 kills, to go along with the nine she accumulated in the win over NCW. She also scooped up a season-high 21 digs in the NCW match.
- Riley Adair leads the team in service aces on the season, picking up six on Saturday, but defensive specialist Maddie Barga is only one behind in the season totals after notching two during the tri-match.
- Methodist's two-headed set assists machine of Lili Henry and Savannah Mullis nearly split the assists down the middle. Against Averett it was Mullis with 13 and Henry with 12, and in the win over NCW Henry earned the top spot with 21 to Mullis' 20.
