Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. Methodist's women's tennis on Saturday and Sunday finished off the fall-semester portion of its 2021-22 schedule, competing in the Sweet Briar Round Robin with host Sweet Briar College and Averett University.
The Vixens' Van Der Meer Tennis Center courts saw eight singles groups and four doubles groups over two days with players and duos within each group competing in a round-robin format.
Kamdyn Balko went unbeaten in her two singles matches. She opened with a straight-set victory (7-6(4), 6-4) over Alexia Alfaro of Sweet Briar, then defeated Averett's Paula Rhysen in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0(7).
Picking up one win within their groups were
Jill Lawrence,
Luciana Forma and
Hannah Higgins: Lawrence took a straight-set 2 and 3 win from Maria Caro of Sweet Briar; Forma shut out the Vixens' Emily Wrenn in two sets, as did
Hannah Higgins against Sweet Briar's Lily Hurt.
In doubles action, the duo of
Megan Kidd and Lawrence earned an 8-5 decision over Alfaro and Caro, Forma and Higgins teamed up for an 8-1 victory over Hurt and Wrenn and Balko and Caddick earned an 8-7 decision over Sweet Briar's Kate Kotany and Ana Patino.
The Monarchs will continue their season in the spring of 2022, beginning with a non-conference match at Piedmont (Ga.) University on February 20.
