SEWANEE, Tenn.  Methodist's women's tennis team participated in the 2021 ITA Women's Fall South Regional on October 1-3, with Megan Kidd advancing into the semifinal round of the main draw's singles consolation bracket.

The event was hosted by The University of the South, Sewanee.

Kidd lost her opening match of the main draw, 6-3 and 6-0, to Emory University's Eliza McPherron, who would advance into the championship bracket's quarterfinal round.

Kidd bounced back in her first match of the main consolation bracket with a 1 and 3 victory over Maddi Stewart of Birmingham-Southern College, then advanced with a bye into the consolation round of 16.

Izzy Foster of Oglethorpe University took the opening set, 6-3, but Kidd rallied in the second with a 6-4 win, then capped off the third-set tiebreak with a 1-0 (10-8) win for the match.

The consolation quarterfinal round pitted Kidd against Lainey Hill of Centre College, but Hill wasn't able to hold back Kidd who won in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-1.

Another winner in her first round of the consolation bracket was Sydni Lewis, who went three sets, 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-2), in downing Alyssa McSpadden of Piedmont College. Lewis was unable to advance after that, falling to Esme Benjamin of Rhodes College in the next round.

Further results of the consolation bracket are not yet available.

Abby Caddick was Methodist's lone victor in the first round of the championship main draw, defeating Ansley Turley of Birmingham-Southern, 5-7, 6-0, 6-4. Caddick's advancement was halted in the second round, however, by the draw's No. 2 seed, Emma Smith of Sewanee.

Toni Laney and Jill Lawrence were relegated to the consolation bracket with championship bracket defeats, and were eliminated from the consolation bracket in their opening matches.

In main draw doubles action, the tandems of Kidd and Lawrence, and Laney and Lewis both lost in the opening round and then again in the first round of the main consolation bracket.

The Monarchs will complete the fall portion of their schedule at the second of the fall semester's two Invitationals at Sweet Briar College. Invite No. 2 will run Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10.
