FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Visiting Averett University spoiled a game of firsts for Methodist men's soccer with a 1-0 win over the Monarchs in USA South Athletic Conference action Sunday evening.
This game was the Monarchs' regular-season debut in the newly-renovated Duggins Soccer Stadium and the Monarchs were able to debut in front of home fans as the new outdoor home events spectator policy has just been activated at Methodist. It was also Play 4Kay night for the Monarchs, a fundraiser which aims to honor and support those who have survived or are battling breast cancer. All proceeds from the event go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

GAME NOTES
- Specifically, Erik Blick spoiled the night for Methodist when, in the 62nd minute, he powered a shot off of a free-kick over the Methodist wall and into the top-right of the net.
- It was a rough night for both the Averett and Methodist offenses. Despite a combined 27 shots, only seven made it through stout defenses to register on target.
- Methodist, in particular, will be lamenting the missed chances as 16 shots and eight corner kicks only resulted in four shots on goal.
- It appeared as though the Monarchs would break through eventually after coming on strong early in the first half. Methodist recorded four shot attempts through the first 10 minutes. Trent Powell had two shots in the first four minutes. A lot of good looks and chances for Methodist resulted in shots being wide.
- Hudson Zeisman was the most on-target for Methodist, putting two of his three shots on goal. Zeisman gave the Monarchs their best chance at a score. In the 57th minute, a through-ball had Zeisman streaking down the right side of the box and it took an acrobatic effort by the Cougars' goalie to save the shot that was placed high and in the corner.
