PINEHURST, N.C. The opening round is complete of the two-day Tiger Invite and Methodist men's golf holds shares of the lead on both the team and individual leaderboards.
Henry Angier shot a 5-under par 67 (33-34) to play even with Hampden-Sydney College's Allen Smith and lead the tournament after Round 1.
The No. 1-ranked (Golfstat.com) Monarchs and 14th-ranked Hampden Sydney are both 1-over at 289 and have a two-stroke lead on Emory (Ga.) University in the team standings.

DAY 1
- Angier had one of, if not his best round as a collegian, posting his 5-under round by carding five birdies -- three on the front nine and two on the back -- and 13 pars without finding an extra stroke anywhere on the course.
- Lurking just one stroke back is teammate Cooper Hrabak (34-34—68, -4), alone in third place. The freshman also had five birdies but found one bogey along the way that cost him a share of the lead.
- A pair of Monarchs, Andre Chi (39-38—77, +5) and Joseph Pritchard (38-39—77, +5) are tied for 35th place, and senior Zane Brownrigg (37-43—80, +8) sits tied for 51st after a challenging back nine.
- In addition to the No. 1 Monarchs and No. 14 Tigers, the Invite also includes (Golfstat rankings): No. 2 Huntingdon College, No. 3 Guilford College, No. 5 Piedmont College, No. 7 Averett University, No. 9 Oglethorpe University, No. 10 Greensboro College and No. 23 Washington & Lee University.
