FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Piedmont College scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to further pad its lead as the visiting Lions left Armstrong-Shelley Field with a 7-3 win over Methodist baseball in non-conference play Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs managed to cut the deficit to 4-3 after scoring a run in the seventh inning. With one out, Ryan Hill walked. Jacob Austin had a sacrifice bunt to move Hill to second and Hill scored off a Jordan Cassell single down the right-field line.
- Methodist answered Piedmont's two runs in the top of the second inning with two runs in the bottom. A throwing error and a wild pitch got Christian Yarbrough to second and a Hunter Hollman's double moved Yarbrough to third before he scored on a single from Hill. Austin got credited with the RBI that scored Hollman.
- Two hits, a walk, and a sacrifice bunt scored two for Piedmont in the second inning and the Lions added another two runs in the third inning, off a hit, a walk, and a Methodist error. Piedmont converted four hits into three runs in the top of the ninth as a cushion.
- It was a tough first inning for Methodist as the Monarchs ended the inning with the bases loaded. The first out was at home plate as Austin was called "out" after racing from second base on a Cassell single.
- Cassell led with two hits, Wesley Hall had two walks, and Hill had a hit and a walk.

GAME NOTES
- Before the game, Head Baseball Coach Tom Austin was honored for his 1,200th career win at Methodist, which he achieved on February 27.
- Justin Scali, the head baseball coach at Piedmont played baseball for Austin at Methodist from 1999-2002. Scali was able to be witness to Austin getting honored before the game.
