JEKYLL ISLAND, GA. In order to win its third straight event, Methodist men's golf will have to rally from fourth place on the team leaderboard at 2-over par after Day 1 of the three-round Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.
Guilford College (284, 4-under par), ranked No. 3 (Golfstat.com) has gotten the better of top-ranked Methodist (290) and the rest of the field so far, holding a six-stroke lead over the Monarchs and a one-stroke advantage over second-place Emory University (285, -3).

DAY 1 NOTES
- Henry Angier (36-36—72, Even) and Cooper Hrabak (37-35—72, E) are leading the way for Methodist, tied for 15th on the individual leaderboard after Day 1. Angier leads the field with 14 par putts while scoring birdies on the par-5 7th and par-5 15th holes.
- Hrabak is right behind Angier with 13 par putts and he added two birdies on the back-nine alone (par-4 10th and 15th).
- Zane Brownrigg (38-35—73, +1) and Andre Chi (38-35—73, +1) are both tied for 25th after finishing the first round with a 1-over 73. Brownrigg's 14 par putts are tied for the tournament-high and he carded consecutive birdies on the 15th and 16th (par-4) holes to finish tied for 25th.
- Chi leads Methodist with three birdies. He scored birdies on the 7th, the par-4 12th, and the par-4 16th.
- Joseph Pritchard fills out the Methodist team as he tied for 69th with a 5-over par 77. After scoring 40 through the front nine, Pritchard recovered well on the back nine with a score of 37. His back nine includes six pars and his only birdie, which came on the 16th hole.
- The 15th and 16th holes were very positive for Methodist as the Monarchs were able to knock off six strokes, thanks to six combined birdies. The 7th hole was also a plus as the Monarchs recorded two birdies and three pars.
- The top five teams according to Golfstat.com are in the top seven of the team leaderboard in this tournament. Guilford, Methodist, No. 4 Piedmont College, and No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan University will all be duking it out in this tournament, and more, while Emory and Carnegie Mellon are hoping to finish the Invitational strong and join the ranked.

- The Monarchs will have two more rounds to stage their comeback with the Invitational concluding on Sunday, March 21.
