HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist (290-298-299—887, +23) finished Sunday where it had started. Looking to claim their third consecutive tournament title, the Monarchs were not able to eat into the 20-stroke lead with which Guilford began the day.
- Chi (73-73-70—216, E) made a big leap up the leaderboard in the final round, climbing nine spots with his 2-under 70, a round that included four birdies as well as an eagle on the 520-yard, par-5 15th.
- Hrabak (72-71-77—220, +4) just missed out on consecutive top-10 finishes. The freshman had a disastrous start to his round with a double-bogey on the opening hole, but he earned back one of those strokes with a birdie on No. 2. Twelve pars and four unfortunate bogeys later, he missed the top 10 by only two shots after finishing third at the March 13-14 Tiger Invite.
- In a tie for 25th place was Henry Angier (72-75-76—223, +7). The senior fought with the course on the front nine with a 4-over 40, but won more battles than he lost on the back nine with an even-par 36 that included birdies on the 10th and 18th.
- Senior All-American Zane Brownrigg (73-79-76—228, +12) came back from a difficult Round 2 with Sunday's 76. A quartet of bogeys marred what otherwise was a straight par card for Brownrigg.
- Freshman Joseph Pritchard (77-79-79—235, +19) matched his second-round score on Sunday, finishing the event tied for 83rd place. Pritchard put together the beginnings of what could have been his best round of the tournament across the front nine, making the turn at just 2-over 38. But trouble on the 10th, 11th and 12th to open his back nine was damaging to his round, though he did finish the day dropping in par putts on the final four holes
TOURNAMENT NUMBERS
- The top-ranked (Golfstat.com) Monarchs collected 174 pars across the three-day invitational, leading the field.
- Their 4.20 average on the par 4s of the Pine Lakes course were third best.
- Chi finished the tournament's 30 par 4s across three days at just 2-over, fourth best in the 133-player field
UP NEXT
- The Monarchs will take on the Mission Inn Resort & Club course at Howie-In-The-Hills, Florida, in their next outing, competing in the April 2-4 Golfweek Division III Spring Invitational.
- Mission Inn was the site of the 2018 D-III Women's NCAA Championship.
