JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Greensboro def. Methodist, 16-6
Records: Methodist 6-3 (3-2 USA South), Greensboro 6-2 (3-1)
Location: Pride Field; Greensboro, N.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tyler Bennett ended the opening Pride streak with a goal in the final minute of the first quarter. Along the left sideline, Bennett looped around Mark Chatt to break free from his defender then raced toward goal off a feed from Chatt. Bennett's high-to-low shot beat Greensboro goalkeeper Christopher Stalling and snuck inside the back post.
- The Pride scored the initial marker of the second quarter, only to have Bennett strike again. He took a feed from Patrick Rowell in the midfield and penetrated top, center of frame, unleashing a shot from 15 yards out that bounced just in front of Stalling and caromed up inside the left post.
- A Matt Pemberton goal from an almost impossible angle made it two in a row for Methodist and cut the deficit to 5-3. Jake Bandler dished to Pemberton to the right of goal and from an angle almost even with the posts whipped a shot that got behind Stalling.
- Greensboro's unanswered four-goal string that followed Pemberton's goal re-built the Pride cushion. Though Kit Allman scored off an assist from Hunter Vaughan in the final minute of the quarter, Greensboro was able to take a 9-4 advantage into the halftime break.
- Each Methodist goal in the second half was answered by two Greensboro scores, resulting in the eventual nine-goal gap on the final scoreboard display.
