OPENING ROUND
  • Tied at 15th overall are Cameron Cappuzzo and Jonathan Lewis, who each carded a two-over 74 on the first day. Cappuzzo kept his score at pretty much even for most of the day with three birdies and three bogeys. A double bogey on hole No. 16 though put him on the plus side.
  • Conference men's rookie of the week Lewis looked great after his first nine by birdieing four times to one bogey. Once he made that toward the back nine though the course was not in his favor. A total of four bogeys, a double bogey, and a birdie is how he got to his current score.
  • Fellow freshman Beau Brewer started off his day with a bogey but collected himself quickly by knocking down three birdies holes No. 4, 5, & 8. He finished the round with a 75 (+3) after scoring three bogeys and a double bogey on the last nine, which puts him in a tie for 23rd place.
  • Sitting just one stroke behind Brewer is Caleb Ryan with a four-over 76. Ryan is currently placed in a tie for 32nd with a card that reads six bogeys and two birdies.
  • In a tie for 47th overall, Will Campbell shot a 78 (+6) in round one. He bogeyed twice early on but balanced out with two birdies before double bogeying the final hole on the front nine. His last nine holes saw him make three additional bogeys, a double bogey, and a birdie.
UP NEXT
Methodist only sits seven strokes behind the leader and will look to improve their standing on Monday with round two. The Monarchs are scheduled to tee off at 9 AM.
