HOW IT HAPPENED
- Casey Atwell played a significant role in the game as he dished out two passes to set up his teammates, Kether Fouana-Seth and Hudson Zeisman in scoring position to knock in Methodist's first two goals of the game.
- The first goal came in the 27th minute of play as Atwell took his defender down the left sideline, beating them by one step and crossing it into the box. Fouana-Seth's one touch and lefty shot slid by two defenders and between the Mary Baldwin's goalkeepers' legs, adding the first mark on the board for the Monarchs.
- The second goal of the game came in the first five minutes of the second half, as Atwell again, took his defender down the left side, crossing it just before going out of bounds at the end line. With his perfect pass right inside the box, Zeisman leaped into the air for a header to the back of the net.
- Mary Baldwin had a chance to score their first goal of the game after being given a penalty kick at the 59:55 minute mark. The shot to the right by Alexis Barba was not enough to get by Cole Hupp's diving save, knocking it away.
- One minute later, the Fighting Squirrels found their first goal after squeezing a pass-through multiple Monarch defenders for an open shot.
- With Methodist only ahead by one goal, Charlie Teachey decided to add some cushion to the lead, laying in a goal off a free kick, 20 yards out.
