HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Greensboro got out to an early lead in set one until Methodist was able to tie it up at 13-13. The team went back and forth tying and exchanging leads. The Pride would go up by one game on the Monarchs following a 5-0 run to end the set.
  • Methodist took game number two after getting out to a 6-3 lead and the Monarchs would never relinquish that advantage the rest of the set. Greensboro did knot it up at 8-8 at one point but a 4-0 swing by Methodist kept them in front and a couple of times the Pride came within one point but could not surpass.
  • At one point, set three looked like Greensboro was going to cruise to win, as the Pride was leading 18-10. The Monarchs would slowly claw their way back into the game and find themselves down by one, 22-21. The Pride though tallied three of the next four points to take a 2-1 set advantage.
  • With the score tied up at 5-5 in set four, Methodist registered the next five points to go up 10-5. A 6-0 run by Greensboro put them up 16-14 but eventually the Monarchs found a way to take back the lead 24-21. The Pride scoring three points after that stopped the Monarchs from winning the set right away and forced the game to go much deeper. Methodist finally took the game 36-34 by scoring the final three points.
  • The final set witnessed the Pride holding the lead for majority of the time. Down 14-8, the Monarchs went on a 6-0 run to tie it up at 14-14. Greensboro claimed the match over Methodist after getting the last two points necessary to win.
  • The first set of the Monarchs versus Meredith match saw the Avenging Angels overpowering Methodist. First jumping out to a 6-0 lead before increasing it to 14-2. A nice little run by the Monarchs got them back within six, 16-10, but Meredith took control again and ran away with set one.
  • In game two, Methodist got off on a better foot by having an 8-4 advantage. Every time the Avenging Angels got close to tying the Monarchs scored a few more points. Meredith's last chance in trying to take the set was after a 5-0 run to make the score 24-23 but Methodist still went on to win the game.
  • Much like the first set the Avenging Angels raced out to a 14-2 advantage. Meredith's lead was as high as 17 points, with the score being 22-5. The Monarchs did outscore the Avenging Angels 6-3 before Meredith reached the goal of 25 points first.
  • With Methodist down 11-8, the Monarchs tallied seven of the next eight points to go up 15-12. The Avenging Angels had a similar situation happen right after by getting eight of the next nine to back up 20-16. Methodist tried to put together one last push at the end but came up short.
