Methodist, Greensboro Match Ends in a Draw

GREENSBORO, N.C.  Methodist men's soccer traveled to Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon for each teams final USA South Athletic Conference game of the regular season. After 90 minutes of action, the match concluded in a nil-nil decision on Pride Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs had a difficult time generating any kind of offense in the first half. As a team they recorded zero shots while the Pride were able to get off four, with three being on target and saved by keeper Matthew Walker.
  • Methodist finally registered their first shot in the 51st minute, wide of the net. The first real scoring chance came from Hudson Zeisman a minute later with a shot on goal but was saved.
  • The Monarchs had two other times where they could have scored and taken a lead. The first came from Christopher Shoffler in the 55th minute and the last off the foot of Charlie Teachey in the 69th minute. Both shots were saved by Greensboro starting goalie, Lee Carrico.
STAT FACTS
  • Even though each side had three shots on goal, the Pride registered more total shots than Methodist, seven to four respectively.
  • These not too far foes played a tough physical match as a total 27 fouls were called, along with seven yellow cards being issued.
  • With the tie, Walker now has six shutout games while in net. His number of shutouts are tied for second in the USA South.
UP NEXT
This was the way final regular season game of the year for Methodist. The Monarchs have qualified for the upcoming USA South Men's Soccer Tournament that will take place next week. Methodist will host the Knights of Southern Virginia University on Tuesday, with a projected start time of 4 PM.
