GREENSBORO, N.C.  Methodist men's golf team, nationally ranked No. 2, fared better on back half of course, The Cardinal by Pete Dye, on Monday. The Monarchs shot a nine-over 293 in the first round of the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial, which currently puts the team in a tie for third place.

DAY 1 NOTES
  • Posting even-par 71 for the day was Will Campbell, putting him in a tie for sixth overall. He was three-over, with a bogey and a double bogey on holes 2 & 5, after going through his first nine. The back nine started off with him making four straight birdies before hitting a couple of bogeys and another birdie to finish off the round.
  • In a tie for 16th place, Cameron Cappuzzo shot a two-over 73 on his first go around on the course. Three bogeys on the front half saw him at +3 but then three birdies on the back half wiped them out. He would also bogey two more times while on his last nine.
  • Aiden Spampinato posted a three-over 74 in the first round of the event. A double bogey and two other bogeys, along with a birdie, put him at +3 heading into the turn. His last nine saw him go even after making a birdie and a bogey.
  • With a four-over 75 for the round, Chase Walts currently finds himself in a tie for 31st place. He was even through his first six holes, with a birdie and a bogey, but a double bogey on No. 7 made him complete the front with a two-over. On the back nine, he birdied and bogeyed twice as well as double bogeyed.
  • Caleb Ryan is in a tie for 64th place with a nine-over 80 after day one. Through 18 holes he bogeyed eight times along with making a double bogey and a birdie.
