Needed Overtime But Methodist Came Back to Get Win Against Oglethorpe

Records: Methodist 3-2; Oglethorpe 3-4
Location: Hermance Stadium; Atlanta, Ga.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cy Horner got the game rolling by scoring the first goal of the game but it would not take the Stormy Petrels long to score the equalizer, just 40 seconds later. For the remainder of the quarter the teams exchanged goals until Oglethorpe made the last two goals of the first to take a 6-4 advantage.
  • The Monarchs had a rough time in the second, as they were held scoreless despite taking 10 shots (three on goal). The Stormy Petrels on the other hand were able to extend their lead by three for a 9-4 halftime score.
  • Similar to the first, the third started out with each team matching goal for goal until we got to 11-6. In the final ten minutes, Horner and Carter Favreau made one goal apiece before the end of the frame to make it 11-8.
  • With their last goal coming with 11:42 on the clock in the third, Oglethorpe would end their scoring drought by netting a goal one minute and 16 seconds into the fourth. Afterwards it would be all Monarchs for the remainder of the game.
  • Methodist would get it to a one goal contest with a score by Kit Allman. On the ensuing faceoff, the Monarchs won possession and called timeout to draw up their next play.
  • The play was a success as Hunter Vaughan tied the game at 12-12 with 28 seconds left in the period. This game then went into overtime where in 50 seconds Leyble found the back of the net for the victory.
