FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. It was a slippery playing field for Methodist men's lacrosse on Wednesday afternoon as the rainy weather did not hold off for the game. The Monarchs came up two goals short against Marietta College, 12-10, after trailing from behind throughout the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED.
- Marietta opened the game on a three-goal hot streak, one of them during a man-up situation from a Methodist penalty. With only eight seconds left in the first quarter, Aiden Foster passed it off to Jesse Leyble for the Monarchs first goal.
- Before the end of the first half, Matt Pemberton was able to find the back of the net with an assist by Hunter Vaughan to make it 4-2, Pioneers.
- Marietta was granted possession opening the second half due to a carried over penalty on Methodist from the second quarter. With the Monarchs still down a man for 30 seconds, the Pioneers scored a quick goal to go up 5-2.
- In the fourth quarter Methodist went down by as many as five goals, but Cy Horner was not going down without a fight. He went on to score three of the Monarchs' next five goals, scoring two within a seven second span as the Monarchs went coast to coast and won the next face off.
- After gaining momentum to score three goals in the final two minutes, there was not enough time on the clock for Methodist, resulting in a 12-10 loss to Marietta.

- Horner scored a season-high five goals, along with one assist to land six points. Leyble followed with three goals while also securing three ground balls. Kit Allman and Pemberton each finished with one goal.
- Marco Romero led the team with five ground balls.
- Marietta won the battle at the face-off dot, taking 23 of 25 chances, while also picking up more ground balls, using a 54-39 edge to maintain or change possession throughout the game.
