AUSTIN, Texas On Wednesday, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) released its Academic All-America Division III Baseball Team, placing Methodist University
Spencer Nelson on the First Team of the national academic squad.
The graduate student designated hitter becomes the fourth CoSIDA Academic All-American in program history, joining former Monarchs Alex Kachler (2020), Joe Myrtle (1993), and Jay Kirkpatrick (1991) on that list.
Nelson completed his second year at Methodist after starting all 42 contests. In two seasons, he has played in 72 games (69 starts) primarily as the DH with some action at first base.
His career slash numbers are .335/.430/.585 (batting average/on base/slugging) and he has driven in 71 RBIs. This season he recorded career-highs in doubles (14) and homeruns (10) to bring his career totals to 23 and 14.
Nelson is currently working on his Master's in business administration after receiving his undergraduate degree in business management.
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division III Academic All-America® program.
