DEMOREST, Ga. The Methodist University women's tennis traveled to Georgia to compete in the Piedmont University Invitational this weekend. The invite was cut short though due to the weather in the area.
All doubles the matches were completed on Friday and some singles flights were completed before the rest were cancelled.
During the doubles flights, the Monarchs had two teams that went undefeated. The combos of
Megan Kidd & Val Matute and
Sydney Bird &
Veva Willocks each went 2-0. Kidd & Matute won both of their matches with ease, respectively 8-2 and 8-3. Bird & Willocks played a couple of tough matches but were still able to prevail. Claiming the first match 8-5 before a tightly contested 8-7 victory.
Making her collegiate debut was
Cailin Cifra, who was paired with Kam Balko, in doubles. After dropping their first match 8-4, the duo finished strong with an 8-3 win.
Toni Laney and
Luciana Forma won 8-6 earlier in the day before falling by the same score in their second match. Also, going 1-1 in doubles were
Hannah Higgins and
Erin Mines.
In the limited single flights, the trio of Forma, Higgins, and Laney all went 3-1.
Milana Lewis only played during singles, where she went 1-1 as did Cifra. Some Monarchs were not as fortunate in singles play by going 0-2.
Methodist is back in action next weekend when the Monarchs host the MU Women's Fall Invitational.
