HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Two back-to-back kills from Aniyah Tate gave the Monarchs the advantage for a 20-18 lead, but Greensboro held on and tied it up at 24-24, causing the set to go extra points. Another kill from Tate put Methodist ahead by one, before a Greensboro error gave the Monarchs the 26-24 win.
  • In the third set, The Pride started off strong, leaking out on a 5-0 run for an 8-2 lead. Methodist slowly chipped away and brought the score back within two after a kill from Alexis O'Neal. Unfortunately Greensboro was able to power through and take the third set, 25-18.
  • The Monarchs made a statement in the fourth set with a 6-0 run to start the game. From there, The Pride did not stand a chance as Methodist dominated earning 10 of the final 19 points from the attack line to win 25-20.
  • The fifth set saw no difference from the fourth as the Monarchs keep their momentum going, only allowing Greensboro to come within two points before taking the set, 15-11.
  • Game 2 was a breeze for Methodist as the team defeated Ferrum in three sets. In set one, the Monarchs took their largest lead of nine points after Jeanana Fowler aced one over the net.
  • The Panthers took the lead early in the second set to go up 5-4. It did not take long for Methodist to find their groove again, regaining their lead with attacks from Leann Sessoms and Tate. Ferrum closed the gap to two at 17-15 but Methodist came out on top with another 25-19 win.
  • In set three the Panthers came out hungry for a win, as the team went on a 3-0 run from the jump. Ferrum maintained the lead until Methodist's Geneva Barriger hit a slam to tie it at nine all. From there the teams exchanged points until the Monarchs hit the 16 point mark.
