Methodist and Ferrum End in a Draw

FERRUM, Va.  Methodist men's soccer crossed state lines to play Ferrum College, in a non-conference contest, on Wednesday night. After 90 minutes, the game concluded in a nil-nil draw at Penn-Roediger Field.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist tied Ferrum, 0-0
Records: Methodist 2-1-2, Ferrum 2-1-1
Location: Penn-Roediger Field; Ferrum, Virginia

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first 45 minutes of the contest, the Monarchs asserted their dominance over the Panthers. Methodist ripped off nine shot, with three on goal, but none were able to hit the back net.
  • Just a little under two minutes into the second half, freshman Matthew Manzano almost put the Monarchs on the board. The starting keeper for Ferrum though made the save on the play.
  • The Panthers looked a little bit better in the final 45 as they looked to control the ball more in Methodist territory based off their five corner kicks and generated three shots in the second half.
NUMBERS
  • The Monarchs offense had chances to break the 0-0 score with their seven shots on target (15 total) compared to the three shots (one on goal) that Ferrum had.
  • Both goalies finish the game with shutouts, but it was Daniel Golden of the Panthers who finished with more saves than Methodist's starter Cole Hupp, respective seven to one.
  • Five different Monarchs finished with two or more shots. Hudson Zeisman took a game-high four one timers followed by Casey Atwell, who had three.
