HOW IT HAPPENED
- William Peace took the first point of set one but Methodist quickly scored four of the next five points, with Jamie Holton recording three kills in that span, to take a 4-2 advantage. After the Pacers knotted the score up 4-4, a back-and-forth battle ensued for the next several points. Two kills from Savannah Hovander and a kill from Aniyah Tate gave Methodist a three-point edge, 14-11, before a couple more three-point swings later in the set put it away for the Monarchs.
- In set two, William Peace jumped out to a 6-3 lead, but Methodist utilized a four-point rally to go up 9-7. Holton, a kill and a service ace, and Jeanana Fowler, kill, gave the Monarchs a few more points to increase their lead until the Pacers recorded three straight points themselves to get within one, 14-13. Methodist eventually pulled away thanks to a late string of five consecutive points.
- The third set started similarly to the first one though this time it was William Peace that claimed an early 4-2 advantage. In a blink of an eye, the Monarchs registered the next three points to take the lead for the first time in the set. Methodist hanged onto that slight edge for a few points before the Pacers took over again, 15-12. William Peace maintained a one- or two-point lead to almost the end of the set until Fowler, two kills, and Holton, a block, flipped the script and secured the match for the Monarchs.
